Akamai is the world leader in Content Delivery Network (CDN) services, focused on making the Internet fast, secure, and innovative for its customers. Boyette has worked with Akamai on location strategies and incentives negotiations for new locations and expansions in the New England market, most recently being the Akamai headquarters’ expansion in Kendall Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This project was very significant, as it was “the largest office lease in Boston or Cambridge in at least the past three years,” according to the Boston Business Journal.
Boyette assisted Akamai in the selection of this location, contingent on the incentives the tech-giant received from the state to ensure its continued growth in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. As a result, Akamai committed to the creation of 700 jobs paying $100,000 per year on average, the retention of more than 1,600, and will invest more than $1.2 billion in the Commonwealth.
The Cambridge project is poised to totally revamp Akamai’s current headquarters uniting six existing offices in Kendall Square, creating a creating a dynamic and consolidated campus. The new campus, which is approximately 486,000 square feet, is expected to open in 2019.
