Project Description

Greater Fort Lauderdale has a population of more than 1.8 million and is at the center of the largest metropolitan population in the Southeast. Boyette recently worked with the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance (GFLA), Broward County’s official economic development partnership, to complete a workforce analysis for the 31 municipalities in Greater Fort Lauderdale. This project, which is funded through a grant from JPMorgan Chase, identified and quantified workforce availability in the area; analyzed in- and out-migration patterns; determined skills attainment and qualifications and identified skills gaps related to GFLA’s seven targeted sectors; reviewed trends and patterns of the workforce in Broward County and surrounding areas; and developed data to share with business prospects considering a location in the area. Stakeholder engagement was a key part of the process to date, with more than 9,000 Greater Fort Lauderdale residents, employers, partners and students providing input through interviews, discussions and surveys.

Boyete developed a Corporate Headquarters Recruitment Blueprint for the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance/CEO Council in 2009. Since the implementation of the strategy, Greater Fort Lauderdale has had announcements of more than 20 headquarter relocation/expansion/retention projects, resulting in over 2,700 new and retained high-wage jobs and more than $21.5 million in capital investment by such notable firms as AutoNation, Altadis, Camposol, Charter Schools USA, Emerson Latin America, Kaplan Higher Education, SmartWater CSI, Parallon, Private Jet Charter, Prolexic Technologies, Stemtech, and Wendy’s Latin America and Caribbean. These successes helped to create significant awareness of Greater Fort Lauderdale from a business perspective, resulting in first-ever honors and recognition for the Alliance/CEO Council, including Business Facilities Magazine’s 2014 and inaugural 2012 Economic Development “Achievements in Public-Private Partnerships” awards and 2013 “Economic Development Excellence” award for communities with population greater than 500K (their highest award). The Alliance/CEO Council was also selected as one of eight finalists from 56 nominations for CoreNet Global’s 2014 H. Bruce Russell Global Innovators Award and was named by Area Development Magazine as a 2013 “100 Leading Locations,” among other accolades.

In 2015, the Alliance/CEO Council worked with BSA again to develop the Greater Fort Lauderdale Target 2020 Plan, which is guiding the efforts of the organization over the next five years, resulting in continued success.
